DoorDash grows automated deliveries across the U.S.
Partnership with Coco Robotics brings emissions-free robot couriers to Los Angeles and Chicago.
DoorDash is accelerating its push into automated delivery with the U.S. launch of sidewalk robot deliveries in Los Angeles and Chicago.
The expansion marks a significant milestone in the company’s partnership with Coco Robotics, as part of its strategy to create a multi-modal delivery network.. The new service is now available to select customers who may receive their orders via Coco’s fleet of compact, emissions-free sidewalk robots, with nearly 600 merchants already participating through the app.
“Not every delivery needs a 2-ton car just to deliver two chicken sandwiches. We believe the future of delivery is multi-modal, and sidewalk robots are a natural fit for short-distance, low-emission logistics,” said Harrison Shih, Senior Director at DoorDash Labs
This launch follows a successful pilot program with Wolt, the company’s international arm, where Coco robots have been delivering in Helsinki, Finland, since earlier this year.
The partnership with Coco was developed through DoorDash Labs, the company’s robotics and automation division. It builds on its previous autonomous delivery efforts, including a collaboration with Wing to bring drone deliveries to the U.S.
