Electric vehicles make inroads even into US oil capital of Houston
Electric vehicles continue to make inroads and now even the Houston area, known to many as the oil capital of the US, will host a program under which package transportation company UPS will start to use 18 all-electric walk-in vans for deliveries in the area, according to a December report by Green Energy News.
The project seeks to both improve air quality standards in Houston as well as to show that the electric delivery vehicles can be as effective as diesel ones, Green Energy added.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council is currently seeking partners to help finance “at least” another dozen electric delivery vehicles, it said.
The Houston area has one of the greatest concentrations of crude oil refineries in the world. In addition, many of the world's biggest fossil fuel companies have either headquarters or large regional offices in the area.
