ENEOS signs synthetic fuel supply agreement with Germany’s eFuel One
Partnership marks the Japanese firm’s first synthetic fuel imports into Japan and supports the development of international low-carbon fuel supply chains.
ENEOS and Germany’s eFuel One (GEF1) have launched a strategic cooperation focused on advancing synthetic fuels in Japan and supporting the development of international value chains for low-carbon fuels.
As part of the agreement, ENEOS and eFuel GmbH have signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement covering future supplies of eGasoline, a synthetic fuel produced using renewable energy and recycled carbon sources. The deal represents the Japanese firm’s first planned import of synthetic fuels into Japan and marks the first export of synthetic fuels from the GEF1 project outside Europe.
The cooperation builds on an existing relationship between ENEOS and eFuel GmbH and expands it into a broader industrial and commercial partnership. GEF1 is currently developing Germany’s first large-scale industrial eGasoline production facility, with eFuel GmbH serving as a shareholder and strategic partner in the project.
For ENEOS, the agreement forms part of its strategy to establish new low-carbon fuel supply chains and advance the goals outlined in its Carbon Neutrality Plan. The company said the partnership will allow it to gain practical experience in the importation, distribution and use of synthetic fuels in Japan, while preparing for potential future growth in demand.
The collaboration also gives GEF1 its first offtake partner in Asia, providing a foundation for future international supply agreements. The project is intended to connect European synthetic fuel production with growing demand for lower-carbon transportation fuels in international markets.
