E.ON to expand ultra‑fast EV charging network in Italy

The expansion will cover 18 service areas and 104 charging points along key national corridors.

E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy has secured the contract to install a new network of ultra‑fast charging stations along Italy’s main motorway corridors. The award, issued by Autostrade per l’Italia (ASPI), strengthens E.ON’s position in the high‑power charging market and accelerates the deployment of new infrastructure across strategic north–south and east–west routes.

The project calls for the installation of 104 ultra‑fast charging points across 18 service areas. All sites are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, subject to permitting and grid‑connection timelines. Each station will function as a fully integrated energy hub, combining high‑power charging with on‑site solar generation and battery storage to ensure efficient and sustainable operation.

E.ON will deploy Alpitronic HYC400 chargers delivering up to 400 kW per point, enabling drivers to add more than 200 kilometres of range in under half an hour. Energy from the grid will be backed by 100% certified renewable supply, supported by a centralised system that optimises solar production, storage and consumption.

Michele De Gaspari, Managing Director of E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy, said: “Winning this highly competitive tender demonstrates both our technical strength and our commitment to accelerating the transition to electric mobility in Italy.” Luca Conti, CEO of E.ON Italia, added: “This result once again confirms E.ON's comprehensive commitment to sustainable mobility.”

The project forms a key part of Italy’s national motorway electrification programme and reinforces E.ON’s growing presence across Europe, where it now operates more than 8,800 charging points in 11 countries.
