European Payments Initiative pushes deeper into mobility
Hectronic begins integrating Wero across parking and EV charging, with fuel retail to follow.
The European Payments Initiative (EPI) is expanding the reach of its Wero payment solution into mobility services, marking a new step in its effort to establish a real‑time, bank‑based alternative to traditional payment systems across Europe.
Wero enables instant account‑to‑account payments using SEPA infrastructure, allowing users to pay directly from their bank accounts without relying on card networks or third‑party providers. The solution, initially focused on peer‑to‑peer and e‑commerce transactions, is now being extended into mobility environments.
Hectronic is among the first technology providers to integrate Wero into mobility payment systems, initially focusing on charging stations and parking machines, with plans to extend functionality to fuel retail environments in a later phase.
“This is precisely the kind of innovation we want to drive forward together with our partners. We are delighted to have Hectronic as a strong technology partner that is embedding European payments into everyday life,” said Fabian Mansfeld, Chief Acceptance Strategy Officer, European Payments Initiative (EPI) / Wero.
By entering the mobility space, Wero aims to strengthen its role in everyday transactions and support broader adoption of European payment standards. The move reflects ongoing efforts to reduce dependence on global card schemes while offering operators and users a more direct and potentially cost‑efficient payment option.
