ExpoPostos & Conveniência 2024: A broader scope for growth
South American industry leaders convened in São Paulo to address the latest challenges and opportunities in the evolving mobility landscape.
The 16th edition of ExpoPostos & Conveniência brought together suppliers and retailers from Brazil and across South America at the São Paulo Expo convention center.
Over 30,000 professionals attended the biennial event organized by ABIEPS and Fecombustíveis. For three days, participants explored cutting-edge technologies and solutions from more than 250 exhibitors across a 30,000m² exhibition space.
Leading Brazilian brands like Petrobras and Ipiranga were joined by global industry giants to present their latest launches and innovations. International companies such as Elaflex, Gilbarco Veeder-Root, PWM, Wolftank, Istobal, and others showcased technologies that highlighted emerging trends in convenience, car wash solutions, and the integration of alternative fuels.
Brazil is home to one of the largest fuel retail markets in South America, with more than 40,000 service stations nationwide. Decarbonization is also a key focus for the local industry, positioning the country as a leader in biofuels due to its growing hydrated ethanol production.
With over 1,500 participants, the International Forum at ExpoPostos played a pivotal role in exploring the challenges and opportunities of this thriving market. Key topics included the future of natural gas in Brazil, the country’s energy resilience, new technologies for upgrading service stations, and the rise of the convenience store sector.
“Digitization, cloud services, Internet of Things (IoT) integration, and a wide offering of digital signage. These are strong trends in the local market, and we are seeing these changes with optimism because our products align precisely with the trends we’re observing,” described Katharina Krawinkel, Regional Executive Director at PWM; and José Navarro, Sales Manager Latam at PWM.
In addition, leaders from all over the world attended to expand the event's scope, shedding light on challenges and opportunities not only within South America but also on a global scale. Tadashi Susuki, Director for New Market Entry at 7-Eleven International, headlined a session to discuss the company’s history and expansion across the world.
Another interesting discussion dived into the current state of the Latin American fuel retail market. The conversation involved Carlos Gold, former president of the CECHA organization in Argentina ; Roberto Díaz de León, General Manager of Combured and former president of Mexico’s Onexpo association; Antonio Galva Saborío, vice president of the Chamber of Fuel Entrepreneurs in Costa Rica; and Juan Carlos Segovia, vice president of AHDIPPE in Honduras.
Other panels focused on the energy transition, the sector’s economic and political challenges, and evolving customer expectations.
