Fastned grows UK network with two new charging hubs
Hubs near Newcastle Airport and Sunderland boost EV infrastructure in time for holiday travel.
Fastned has opened two new ultra-rapid charging stations in the North East region of the United Kingdom, marking a major step in its expansion across the market.
The first hub, near Callerton Parkway Metro station, just one stop from Newcastle Airport, offers 12 drive-through bays under a full canopy for quick and convenient charging. The second hub, on North Moor Road in Sunderland, is equipped with six bays and Fastned’s signature yellow “wings,” alongside Costa Coffee and Greggs outlets.
With these additions, the company now operates 13 sites across the region, supporting the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. Since its first UK hub opened in Sunderland in 2019, the network has powered more than 273,000 charging sessions.

Both hubs deliver 100% renewable energy and are designed for ease of use, with extra-wide bays, suspended cable systems, and 24/7 multilingual support. This investment reinforces the region’s transition to cleaner travel and supports Newcastle Airport’s goal of becoming Net Zero by 2035.
