Fastned to build France’s first all-electric service area in Brittany
The new facility will feature six ultra-fast chargers delivering up to 400kW, including one adapted for heavy goods vehicles.
European EV charging company Fastned has secured a site in St Yvi, Brittany, to develop France’s first motorway service area dedicated exclusively to electric charging. The project, scheduled to open in 2026, represents a significant milestone in the country’s transition to zero-emission mobility.
The new facility will feature six ultra-fast chargers delivering up to 400kW, including one adapted for heavy goods vehicles. Located on Route Nationale 165, a key artery carrying more than 28,000 vehicles daily and part of the E60 continental network, the station aims to provide a seamless charging experience for drivers. Amenities will include a shop, restrooms, and a landscaped garden, all powered by renewable energy under a solar canopy.
Michiel Langezaal, Fastned’s CEO, said the project underscores the company’s ambition to accelerate Europe’s shift to sustainable transport: “This tender win shows our commitment to giving every driver the best charging experience possible with 100% renewable energy.”
France becomes the second country to adopt Fastned’s vision of “the service area of the future,” following Belgium’s flagship site in Gentbrugge, opened in 2025. The concept prioritises people over cars, offering comfort and convenience while supporting the phase-out of fossil fuels. Fastned currently operates over 380 stations across Europe, including more than 50 in France.
