Galp workers say Portuguese government trying to prevent their strike
Organized workers of Galp who are readying work stoppages on May 19 at the Sines refinery and May 23 at the Porto refinery complained in a statement May 18 that the country’s Energy and Work ministries are trying to frustrate their strike plans.
The union complains that an order under which the company must be in position to provide “minimal services” is a violation of the rights of workers to go on strike, it said.
“In conclusion, the government is going now to the help of Petrogal/GalpEnergia giving to them that which courts have said it is not possible to give because it violates the law and the Constitution,” the workers union added.
The strike is over a series of demands led by requests for higher salaries.
