Gasum opens 20th filling station in Sweden
Energy company Gasum continues to expand the gas filling station network and is investing with partners to enable the use of the fuel across Sweden.
Gasum has opened its 22nd liquified gas station in Vårgårda (Sweden), bringing the total of sites in the Nordics to 50.
As the infrastructure expands, there will be more and more gas-powered vehicles on Swedish roads, according to Gasum. There are currently around 600 heavy-duty vehicles that run on liquefied gas.
“We are pleased that the Swedish government continues to support the building of biogas plants and filling stations. Gasum is actively building new biogas plants and by expanding the Swedish gas infrastructure will make it possible for more and more actors the length and breadth of the country to switch to environmentally friendly and cost effective alternative fuels,” says Sharareh Edström, Director, Traffic Sweden at Gasum.
The new station in Vårgårda is testimony to the extended cooperation between Gasum and freight and logistics company Sandahls Logistik, with sister companies systerbolagen Sandahls Vårgårda och Sandahls Fulload. Sandahls Logistik aims to phase out fossil-fueled transports in its operations during 2025 and has chosen to invest in biogas-powered vehicles road transports.
The station in Vårgårda will enable the company to step up the pace of switching to gas vehicles in their fleet and so respond to increasing customer demand.
“There is huge interest in using this new filling station and several companies have signaled that this venture gives them completely new possibilities to switch over to lower emissions transports,” Edström states.
Use of renewable biogas in transports can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 percent compared to fossil fuels during the lifecycle of the fuel.
