HAM Group to complete construction of Europe's largest natural gas station
Spanish HAM Group is in the final stages of the construction of Europe's biggest natural gas filling station in Abrera, near Barcelona, reported Vozpopuli.
Ham Group is Spain´s leading company in liquefied natural gas (LNG) distribution, LNG regasification plant construction and natural gas filling stations. The new station will be located in an industrial park where automotive manufacturer Seat produces CNG-powered vehicles.
The pioneering filling station will feature four pumps supplying LNG to heavy-duty vehicles, and another four distributing compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicles such as the Seat Leon TGI. According to HAM´s CEO, Antonio Murugó, this will be Europe´s biggest filling station of its kind.
HAM Group has signed a two-year deal with Seat in an effort to promote and increase the use of natural gas in the Spanish motor market. The natural gas distributor is the owner of the first CNG-powered corporative fleet of Seat Leon TGIs, some of which were exhibited at the new filling station in Abrera.
In first six months of 2015 Seat has sold as many CNG-powered vehicles as in the whole of last year, gaining an 80% market share, while HAM Group have opened more than 30 LNG and CNG stations over the last years.
Although the market is still in its early stages, it is clear Seat and HAM Group are taking steps to stay ahead of competitors by ensuring the supremacy of the vehicle manufacturing and fuel distribution networks, respectively.
