Indian Oil Corporation to launch gas station pre-booking service

Indian Oil Corporation has announced a series of new conveniences for its customers that include the possibility of pre-booking a slot at the gas station in order to avoid queues.

India´s largest fuel retailer, accounting almost half of all gas stations, is improving its services with a series of innovations as it tries to fend off growing competition from private and public fuel retailers.

Through a technology platform customers will be able to book a slot as they drive to the filling station. Once there, the vacant slot will be displayed and the driver guided towards it. Vehicles will be handed radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to be automatically identifies and allow payment, explained the company´s Marketing Director to the India Times.

According to the source, the company will roll out a pilot programme to test the initiative in six months. Along with the pre-booking concept, Indian Oil Corporation is also developing mobile wallet programmes.

The company is also investing in the development of service stations in India´s new highways that provide a large selection of services.
