Iran privatizes 41 state-owned petrol stations
Iran Privatization Organization (IPO) has put out to tender 41 state-owned petrol stations as part of the government’s plan to reduce its monopoly on fuel distribution and privatize the fuel retail sector, according to a Financial Tribune report.
The 41 stations in 14 provinces including Ardabil, Isfahan, Alborz, West Azarbaijan, Bushehr, Khuzestan, Fars, Lorestan, and Mazandaran are up for sale to private bidders.
The public tender follows previous auctions organized by the IPO over the last year.
Two hundred state-owned petrol stations worth more than $182 have already been auctioned.
The government controls less than 10% of the 3,600 fuel stations and 2,400 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in the country.
There’s a shortage of fuel stations in Iran’s big cities, the report added.
