Italian fuel consumption in January shows little sign of recovery
Consumption of all oil products in Italy in January were nearly 4.5 million tonnes which was a 2.4% decline from the same month a year earlier, according to official Italian statistics released February 12.
However, total demand just for gasoline and diesel in January was 2.4 million tonnes, or 0.5% more than in the same month a year earlier.
Authorities that prepared the statistics indicated that it could indicate a recovery as December figures had already also posted a similar weak hint toward a small market expansion following several annual declines.
Registrations of new vehicles in that month increased 11% annually, the report noted.
Italian fuel consumption has declined in recent years and in 2014 it was the weakest since the 1960s.
