Italy: 200 fuel stations on motorways to be equipped with high-power chargers
Autostrade per l’Italia reveals plans to rollout Italy’s most extensive network of HPC stations. Phase I will cover 67 fuel stations over the next 2-3 years.
Autostrade per l’Italia (ASPI), one of the main toll-motorway operators in Europe, announced plans to equip all 200 fueling stations on its motorway network with high-voltage charging stations for electric vehicles, according to ASPI’s latest business plan.
Once completed, it will be Italy’s most extensive HPC network by a wide margin.
Phase 1, that started at the end of February, entails the installation of 300+ kW HPC columns in 67 fueling stations over the next 2-3 years, covering almost a third of the total motorway’s station network. The service areas were already identified and approved by Italy’s Ministry of Transport.
Phase 2 will see the remaining locations being equipped with the same capacity HPC chargers.
Between 4 and 6 multi-client charging stations are to be installed at each of the fueling stations on ASPI’s network, enabling users to charge their vehicles in 15-20 minutes.
For the development of the proposed new HPC network, ASPI will partner with different players in the sector, and mainly with Enel X, the electric mobility branch of Italy’s electricity giant Enel.
ASPI manages 3,020 km of Italy’s 7,000 km motorway network.
