Italy: Industry meeting set for May 13 over restructuring of fuel network; strike suspended
During a technical meeting held May 4 in the ministry of Economic Development there were talks involving government and industry organizations Faib, Fegica and Anisa, to prepare for a May 13 meeting between “all interested parties” involved in the restructuring of the network of stations in Italy and as a result of this advance all protests and strike organization plans were suspended.
“During the technical meeting there were diverse aspects of interest to operators which were examined,” according to information published in the website of the FAIB (Federazione Autonoma Italiana Benzinai).
Fuel industry worker organizations suspended all plans to hold protests in Milan which would have coincided with the first days of the Milan Expo fair as well as other plans to hold a two day strike which would have closed fuel dispensing locations in the country.
Fuel retail operators have long complained of losses of profitability in recent years which have led to closing of fuel stations.
