IVECO opens new LNG station in North Italy
The goal is to accelerate the transition to green logistics across the main European long-haul routes of Italy, Austria and Germany.
IVECO took part in the inauguration of a new LNG station in Bolzano (Alto Adige), on the Brennero route linking Italy, Austria and Germany, and delivering to FERCAM, a leading logistics company operating in Italy and Germany, the first LNG truck in their fleet.
The forecourt will have the capacity to store 80m³ of LNG and to supply around 250 lorries daily through 12 pumps distributed in 6 lines. The final investment for this new station amounts to nearly €2 millions.
The moves comes after the Tyrol Region imposed some restrictions on vehicles from motorways to accelerate the transition to green logistics across the main European long-haul routes of Italy, Austria and Germany.
Toll exemption for natural gas vehicles in Germany
The German Parliament passed a resolution to exempt CNG and LNG traction vehicles above 7.5 tonnes from motorway tolls from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020. This means that natural gas fleets will enjoy the same benefits as electric vehicles and will only have to pay tolls for the infrastructure costs and noise components of the toll fees.
“Germany is at the crossroads of European logistics, so these decisive moves by the country’s authorities will dramatically accelerate the penetration of alternative natural gas powertrains across the continent," commented IVECO Brand President, Pierre Lahutte.
This exemption, together with the subsidies on the purchase of natural gas vehicles announced in July (€12,000 for LNG and €8,000 for CNG vehicles), further increases the financial benefits of these trucks for German logistics operators, with savings ranging from 9.3 to 18.7 cents per kilometre depending on the weight category.
