Mitsubishi, Lawson to install more gas stations at Japan convenience stores
Mitsubishi Corp. and its convenience store operator Lawson plan to increase convenience stores with self-service fuelling stations from current eight to 30 by 2020, reports The Japan Times.
The petrol stations, in addition, will be equipped with car wash and would be managed by convenience store staff to reduce operational costs.
The stores could also bring in stable profits as customers use both gas stations and convenience stores, according to an official form Diashoseki Corporation, operator of the existing eight Lawson c-stores with gas stations.
Mitsubishi is inviting more partners to collaborate in this new business venture amid tough competition in the c-store market and growing number of electric vehicles in the country.
