New online shopping service for 7-Eleven Japan

Seven & I Holdings will be launching a new online shopping service in Japan by November 11, with up to 1.8 million items available for consumers.

The new “omni7” service will allow registered users to order any products offered by group retailers online and have them delivered at their homes or at any Seven & I Holdings group outlets across Japan, such as 7-Eleven convenience stores.

The deliveries will be free if customers collect them from a group company outlet or spend a total of ¥1,500 ($12.40) or more. For purchases under that value, a fee of ¥300 ($2.5) will apply, reported Japan Times.

Customer will also be able to order deliveries from special tablets installed in the stores. Company outlets will also serve to manage payments, refunds and returns.

7-Eleven has recently opened a similar digital and delivery service across 8 US markets:  New York City, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle, in addition to San Francisco and Austin, Texas, where the company started the delivery service back in July.

The on-demand delivery service has been developed in partnership with Postmates, a San Francisco-based technology and logistics company that provides this service through a network of independent couriers, reported CSP News.
