Nigeria: DPR shuts down 19 gas stations for overpricing
The Nigerian Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has closed down 22 gas stations in the capital city of Abuja for selling above the standard price, N97 ($0.49) per litre.
DPR shut down 19 of the gas stations for selling above the state-imposed rate, and two others for diversion of petroleum products, reports Pulse.
The last filling station was shut for “grossly under-dispensing and selling products massively in jerry cans,” said the government agency in a statement.
"Stations are to remain sealed for at least one month in addition to forfeiting their bridging claims as directed by the Federal Government,” the statement added.
Among the closed gas stations there was Oando, Kalasma Nigeria Limited, Inyas Nigeria Limited, Jibeco Nigeria Limited, Ahmis Nigeria Limited or Kelvin Energy Limited.
The DPR warned other retailers in their statement, “Petroleum product marketers and depot owners are hereby warned to operate within the guidelines governing petroleum sales and distribution or face the wrath of the law. The exercise shall continue until normalcy is restored.”
DPR has the statutory responsibility with ensuring compliance to petroleum laws, regulations and guidelines in the Oil and Gas Industry.
