Nigerian Petroleum to roll out cassava, sugarcane-fed biofuel filling stations
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is planning to open biofuel filling stations across the country.
In line with this, the NNPC has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kogi State Government to establish a biofuel refinery that will be fed by cassava and sugarcane, as reported by Osun Defender.
The fuel-ethanol processing plant would produce 84 million litres of biofuel per year. Biofuel could be blended into Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol, reports Daily Trust.
The project is expected to be completed in 36 months with funding currently being sought from the African Development Bank.
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello said that more than two million jobs will be created in the state as a result of the cassava and sugarcane development project, and assured supply sufficiency both for the refinery and for food consumption.
