NIS launches solar energy development project
A total of 15 service stations have already been equipped with photovoltaic equipment in Serbia and the company plans to continue the roll out across 30 locations.
NIS presented its solar panel development project across its fuel retail network in Serbia. The company has already equipped 15 service stations to generate green energy and plans to expand it across more sites in the near future.
The chain introduced its initiative in a press event at its Gazprom station located in the city of Pancevo. Representatives of the firm talked to journalists about the project’s goals and benefits alongside the company’s plans for the future.
So far, NIS has invested more than 40 million dinars for installing solar panels throughout its retail network. This amount is estimated to save about 600 MWh in electricity procurement on an annual basis.
Electricity produced is used for local operations, while potential surpluses are sent to the distribution network, giving NIS the status of buyer-producer. As the first energy company in the country to implement photovoltaic solutions, it already has plans to install the equipment at another 30 facilities in the near future.
The completion of further installations is expected to be completed by mid 2024, bringing the total installed power of solar panels at gas stations to 1.6 MWp.
