OMV opens its first unmanned service station in Austria

The new OMV Fastlane concept it totally unmanned and it includes fresh pizza and a complete convenience store.

OMV has launched Austria's first unmanned petrol station and convenience store that is contactless and completely digitalised. In cooperation with the start-up BistroBox and self-service food retailer UNIBox, the first "OMV Fastlane" has opened at an existing Avanti site in Linz.

The new self-service concept allows users to fuel up and shop seamlessly and with no human interaction. More than 1,000 convenience products, hot snacks such as fresh stone-baked pizza and coffee are available. All purchasing actions are contactless and are handled digitally via touchscreens and apps.

"We see that our role as a local supplier for people is steadily gaining in importance. This applies in particular to regions where the infrastructure of gastronomy or food retailing is less developed. With our OMV Fastlane, we are already opening the petrol station of tomorrow, which responds to customer needs as a multi-service hub and offers even more flexibility and independence," says Gernot Gollner, Head of OMV's petrol station business in Austria.

As key partner in the new site is BistroBox and its 24-hour pizzeria concept. The company brings experience from the operation of some 40 other locations in Austria."

"Via a touch screen, customers can bake themselves an oven-fresh pizza in just two minutes, plus snacks, drinks, freshly ground coffee and tobacco products. In addition, there is also a small sitting and standing area for immediate consumption," explains BistroBox co-founder and managing director Klaus Haberl.

Another strong cooperation partner is UNIBox, part of the Upper Austrian Unimarkt Group – they manage the store section of the site. "By registering via an app, customers gain access to this part of the shop, where they will find a diverse range of over 900 products for their daily shopping, including high-quality organic products," says Andreas Haider, the Unimarkt Group.

Austrian energy company OMV is already planning another OMV Fastlane site with BistroBox and UNIBox in Graz. The intention to is continue to expand the concept to the rest of Austria.

OMV operates about 2,100 service stations in ten European countries.
