Orlen adds HVO100 to Slovakia’s fuel network
Pilot in Bratislava expands low-emission diesel offering across Central Europe.
Orlen has launched sales of HVO100 in Slovakia, starting with a pilot at a service station in Bratislava as part of its strategy to expand low-emission fuels across Europe. The introduction marks the latest step in the company’s regional rollout, following deployments in Germany and broader availability in Austria and the Czech Republic.
The pilot project will enable the retailer to assess real-world demand and operational readiness before extending the fuel to additional locations. HVO100 is available for both passenger cars and heavy-duty vehicles and is compatible with most modern diesel engines, offering a lower-emission alternative without requiring changes to vehicles or refuelling infrastructure.
“The launch of HVO100 sales in Slovakia marks another step in our consistent efforts to build Orlen’s regional offering of low-emission fuels,” said Marek Balawejder, Vice President of the Management Board for Consumer & Products at ORLEN. “This will allow us to assess potential demand in a live market environment, better understand customer needs and test our network’s operational readiness before rolling out the product more widely.”
Produced from renewable feedstocks such as used cooking oil, animal fats and food industry residues, HVO100 is designed to deliver performance comparable to conventional diesel while potentially reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions depending on production pathways.
Orlen has operated in Slovakia since 2019 and currently runs a network of 102 service stations in the country. The company continues to invest in expanding both its fuel and non-fuel offerings, while introducing lower-emission energy solutions across its retail footprint in Europe.
