Orlen advances hydrogen strategy with Szczecin hub project
The new facility will support Poland’s energy transition and zero-emission transport development.
Orlen has taken a new step in its hydrogen strategy with the development of a production hub in Szczecin, Poland, aimed at supporting decarbonization efforts across transport and industry. The project will be delivered under a PLN 75 million (€17 million) EPC contract and includes the construction of a turnkey hydrogen production facility.
The planned installation will feature a 5 MW electrolyzer, hydrogen storage systems, and dedicated infrastructure for distribution, with an expected output of at least 90 kilograms of hydrogen per hour. The hub is designed to contribute to the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure in Poland, aligning with broader European energy transition goals.
The Szczecin project forms part of Orlen’s wider investment in alternative energy solutions, particularly in the development of hydrogen as a key element for reducing emissions in transport and industrial sectors. The company has been scaling its involvement in hydrogen production and distribution to support the shift toward low-carbon mobility.
The construction of the hub also reflects growing demand for hydrogen applications in public transport and logistics, as cities and operators seek cleaner fuel alternatives. Orlen’s approach combines infrastructure development with partnerships across the energy and engineering sectors to accelerate deployment.
