Orlen breaks ground on multimodal service station in Salzgitter
The new site will combine fuel, charging and truck services, with opening planned for late 2026.
Orlen Deutschland has officially started construction of a new multimodal service station in Salzgitter‑Watenstedt, marking a significant infrastructure project designed to support both current and future mobility needs. The facility is being developed on land owned by Salzgitter AG and is scheduled to open in December 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from Salzgitter AG, local authorities and representatives from the company, underscoring the collaborative nature of the project. The station will serve passenger cars and heavy‑duty vehicles and is intended to accommodate a broad mix of energy technologies, including conventional fuels and electric charging.
Planned on a site of around 12,000m², the station will operate under Orlen’s star brand and include a modern retail shop with an expanded food offering and outdoor seating. Six fuel pumps for passenger vehicles are planned, alongside two dedicated high‑performance truck fueling lanes. A fuel vending machine will enable 24/7 operation, and the site will also feature truck parking, a car wash with self‑service bays and shower facilities for drivers. A photovoltaic system will provide part of the station’s electricity supply.
E-mobility will be a central component of the development. An Orlen CHARGE hub with eight charging bays is planned, including four ultra‑fast chargers delivering up to 400 kW. The charging infrastructure is being implemented in partnership with regional energy companies.
Orlen said the Salzgitter‑Watenstedt project is a key element of its network strategy, while Salzgitter AG highlighted the station’s role in developing future‑oriented supply solutions for the industrial area, employees and the wider community.
