ORLEN launches RECUP deposit system in Germany
Both branded and star service stations will become members of the sustainable initiative to offer customers different types of reusable cups.
Starting in November, star and Orlen service stations are set to become members of the RECUP reusable cup deposit system. Customers of both brands will be able to choose between a reusable cup, a fully recyclable cup, or a compostable disposable container for their to-go drinks.
Working alongside Germany’s largest reusable deposit system, RECUP, the company strives to make a further contribution to reducing disposable items and protecting the environment. As of March 2022, the firm had already converted all their disposable packaging to recyclable and compostable.
“The popularity of to-go drinks has been growing steadily over the past few years. For this reason, we’re all the more pleased that in addition to our environmentally-friendly disposable packaging, we are now able to offer our customers a reusable cup system at our petrol stations that works all across Germany,” said Kai Frahm, Head of Category Management at Orlen Deutschland GmbH.
The system can be easily integrated into everyday life and business processes. Customers can take their to-go drinks with them in a sustainable RECUP reusable cup for a €1 deposit, enjoy them on the go, then return the cups at any station or at any of the roughly 14,000 RECUP dispensers across Germany.
The star and ORLEN petrol stations take back the used RECUPs and pay the deposit. The cups are washed and then ready for use again.
