ORLEN opens first high-power EV charging hub in Poland
The new facility near Olsztynek triples charging speed as the company plans over a dozen additional hubs by year-end.
ORLEN has inaugurated its first modern fast-charging hub for electric vehicles (EV) under the ORLEN Charge network, marking a major step in expanding Poland’s national EV infrastructure. Located along the S7 expressway at the Olsztynek Południe Motorway Service Area, the new hub allows drivers to charge their vehicles up to three times faster than before.
The facility is equipped with dynamic power-sharing technology capable of adjusting the charging output to each vehicle’s needs, delivering up to 400 kW per charging point. It can charge up to eight vehicles simultaneously, serving as a model for future hubs. ORLEN plans to open more than a dozen similar sites by the end of the year, including locations in Szczecin, Gorzów Wielkopolski, and Nowy Dwór Gdański.
“Long charging times remain one of the main barriers to the development of electromobility. The new ORLEN Charge hub significantly mitigates this challenge, offering charging times comparable to the average time spent by drivers of conventional vehicles at service stations,” said Marek Balawejder, Management Board Member for Retail Sales at ORLEN. “ Within the next two years, we intend to deploy over 50 such hubs along major transport routes.”
The Olsztynek hub operates 24/7, offering touchscreen interfaces, contactless payments, and real-time monitoring via the ORLEN Charge mobile app. According to Krzysztof Kaczyński, Executive Director for Electromobility at ORLEN, the rollout is part of a nationwide programme to eliminate barriers to long-distance EV travel, with most hubs positioned along key transit routes.
The ORLEN Charge network currently includes over 1,200 charging points in Poland and is expanding as the company aims to become a leader in EV charging both domestically and across European markets.
