Pemex comes up with new idea to fight theft of gasoline and diesel in pipelines
State oil company Pemex, which has been largely unable to control rampant theft of fuel from its pipelines which is later sold illegally in the country in competition with Pemex, will now try a new initiative which is to transport by pipeline exclusively “unfinished gasoline and diesel”.
The product to be moved will be in “in a stage still not adequate for its use in vehicles and industrial plants. The final mix of these products will be carried out directly in Pemex storage terminals in the country before its delivery to vehicles and industry,” the company has said.
“We recommend consumers to make sure that the fuel they are being sold comes from Pemex terminals and not to buy gasoline and diesel from stations different from those authorized service stations or distributors because the engines can be damaged. It is also convenient to get your payment receipt,” the company said.
The company has made telephone numbers available so that theft is immediately reported.
Oil product pipelines, which are punctured by thieves, must be repaired immediately because of the spills they cause.
