Petronas advances with success in plans to complete construction of floating LNG facility
Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which has said in the past it plans to build Malaysia’s first floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal by this year to meet increasing future demand, said in a mid-April statement that it is advancing with success.
The floating terminal, which will enable easy loading of LNG to ships, is advancing thanks to works which just achieved 12 million man hours without any lost time injury since the construction started in 2012, the company said in April. Back in 2012 it was intended at the time that construction would be completed within three years.
“The PFLNG 1 will be moored in Kanowit gas field, located 180 kilometres offshore Sarawak, Malaysia and will produce 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year. It will play a significant role in PETRONAS’ efforts to unlock the gas reserves in the country's remote and stranded fields, which had been deemed uneconomical to develop conventionally and to help meet the growing demand for gas,” according to information released by the company in April 2015.
