Petroperú returns to oil production after 25 years
The company has taken up responsibility for the operations in Batch I of the site located in Talara, which produces roughly 540 barrels a day.
After 25 years, Petroperú returned to oil production by taking control of the oil and gas operations of Batch I, located in the Talara oil basin. The company held an event to commemorate its return to activities in the territory where it currently produces around 540 barrels of oil per day.
The ceremony was attended by several representatives of the company as well as the recently elected president of Peru, Pedro Castillo Terrones. The latter highlighted the importance of the oil company's return to this type of activities for the hydrocarbon industry in the country. At the same time, he said that the complex will start operations in April next year.
"Today we are changing history by taking the big step for the return to Petroperú with this operation and in the coming months with lot 192, the largest in the country and lot 64, both in the Loreto region. With the operation of these lots, part of the crude required by the New Talara Refinery for the production of quality fuels is assured", commented Terrones.
"This return of the state-owned company to oil production activities will contribute to its vertical integration and to the strengthening of the national oil industry. Undoubtedly, today marks an important milestone that will contribute to offer the national market quality fuels at much more competitive prices, a commitment of Petroperú with the country", added Óscar Vera Gargurevich, Corporate Operations Manager of the company.
Petroperú took control of the operations after the expiration of the exploration and production contract for Block I operated by UNNA. Said documentation expired after the 30-year term established by the country's Hydrocarbons Organic Law. The company will start activities through a temporary license contract that will last a total of 22 months, focused on maintaining oil production and natural gas liquids.
