Philippines: Gas pumps warned to issue receipts
The Philippines’ Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) reminded gas stations in the country of their legal obligation to issue sales invoices or official receipts, reported the Manila Bulletin.
BIR issued a warning against gas stations and reminded them that there’s no need to ask whether a client, who’s most of the time in a hurry, needs a receipt as issuing one is mandated by the law.
This type of violation is becoming rampant in Metro Manila and other places as seen in the case of a gas station in Malabon City, which was slapped with penalties by the government revenue agency.
Subway Gasoline Station along M.H. Del Pilar Street, Maysilo, Malabon City was shut down after being placed under surveillance on complaints of motorists that it was not issuing receipts.
The gas station also allegedly used unregistered point-of-sales (POS) machines and reportedly failed to produce back-up manual sales invoices, which are among the grounds for closing down non-compliant establishments under “Oplan Kandado” program.
“Oplan Kandado” program is the agency’s crusade to run after erring taxpayers and temporarily suspend businesses found to have violated certain tax laws.
