Philippines’ Shell stations to become WIFI hotspots
Philippines’ Globe Telecom and Pilipinas Shell have signed a partnership agreement to put up Globe cell sites and eventually roll out GoWIFI hotspots at 14 Shell retail stations in the country.
Most of the selected Shell petrol stations are located along major thoroughfares and major areas of converge, which will improve mobile connectivity in surrounding areas.
Globe Telecom also considers expanding the cell sites to as many as 1,000 Shell retail stations, reports Business Mirror.
“This collaboration with Shell is breath of fresh air considering the enormous challenges we encounter in establishing network infrastructure such as cell sites. This also supports our commitment in continuing to build a robust and reliable network for our customers’ expanding data needs,” said Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu.
Over the ban of using mobile phones at gas stations, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. President Cesar Romero said that they are in the process of removing such policy. He said that research shows that mobile phones have emission risk than before.
