Podcast: The new customer journey

How are digitalization and AI impacting the new customer journey? In this episode of Talks on Mobility we talk to the CEOs of three leading companies about the transformation of service stations and stores.

In a recent expert discussion, at UNITI expo’s International Forum, we discussed the impact of AI and digital tools on customer experience at convenience stores and mobility stations. AI's role in understanding customer behavior through data was emphasized, along with the growing customer embrace of digitalization, loyalty programs, automation, and interactive screens.

Efficient apps, like those from TanqYou, are key to providing a seamless customer journey, a sentiment supported by Scheidt & Bachmann's approach. Smart stores, such as Q1, exemplify how advanced technology enhances convenience. The three industry leaders agree that the customer journey will continue to evolve with further advancements in digital and smart technologies.

Jörg Heilingbrunner

Jörg has been the CEO of Scheidt & Bachmann’s Energy Retail Solutions division since 2011 and has driven the transformation into cloud-based solutions and new ways of working, expanding the S&B market leadership and becoming leader in innovation in the payment industry. He has been in the fuel retail industry for more than 25 years as an entrepreneur. Scheidt & Bachmann has accompanied the market development, from the simple station through to the “mobility supermarket."

Frederick Beckmann

Frederik has led Q1 Energie AG for over 9 years setting a big focus on innovation and new mobility. He is also the Managing Director of SmartCityHouse. Q1 Energie is an independent German medium-sized fuel retailer whose brand proposition is putting "Quality First". The company operates a network consisting of 230 service stations throughout Germany, with a strong focus in the northern and eastern regions.

Jan-Harmen Akkerman

After a successful career in the IT sector, Jan-Harmen Akkerman founded TanQyou in 2015 as an innovative network of unmanned fuel stations in the Netherlands. Seven years later the company now operates a network of 40 sites across the Netherlands. In 2020, the technology behind TanQyou surpassed its own retail brand with the conception of moveyou, a platform that provides whitelabel MaaS and data services to 27 brands and around 2,000 sites in the European fuel market.
