Rabbit Transit starts using natural gas
Rabbit Transit’s bus that will take the York and Harrisburg route is the first to use compressed natural gas (CNG), reported eaglefordtexas.com.
This pilot initiative is part of York, Pennsylvania’s public transport plans to replace its fleet serving York and Adam counties with CNG-powered buses over the next 10 years.
Rabbit Transit partners with waste management company Republic Services for the refuelling of the CNG bus as CNG vehicles need special filling stations, which the latter can provide.
Switching to CNG will cost about half as much as the diesel and gasoline fuels currently in use. It will help the transport company reduce its carbon and greenhouse emissions to as much as 30 percent less.
“We’ve ordered eight more (CNG) buses, and they should be here in December 2016,” said Rabbit Transit Executive Director Richard Farr.
