Red River Co-Op takes over 49 Husky gas stations in Canada
The brand will disappear from the city of Winnipeg as the retailer has been purchased by Federated Co-Ops and resold to its partners.
Several locations from the Husky brand of service stations in Canada have been acquired by Federated Co-Ops. The company has resold the assets to its Co-Op partners and Red River Co-Op will take over 49 forecourts after the rebranding process.
According to a report by local news site Access Winnipeg, the Husky brand will disappear from the city with several other stations being rebranded to other companies. Most of its locations are in Alberta and British Columbia, with nine other sites in Manitoba, Kenora and Dryden.
Red River’s network will grow to 49 gas stations, nine grocery stores and two stand alone pharmacies, the media pointed out. The company’s grocery business relaunched in 2014 after more than 50 years closed due to indebtment, which reduced its fuel retail network to only three sites.
But the business went through a slow and steady recovery, which benefited by purchasing parts of Sobey-Safeway stores to expand once again into the grocery sector.
