Repsol, Toyota, BMW and Bosch launch renewable gasoline pilot in Spain
Repsol has partnered with Toyota Motor Europe, BMW Group and Bosch to test how current vehicles perform running exclusively on 100% renewable gasoline.
Repsol has partnered with Toyota Motor Europe, BMW Group and Bosch on a six-month pilot project in Spain to test how current vehicles perform running exclusively on 100% renewable gasoline. The initiative, which began in early July, deploys around 20 Toyota and BMW vehicles fuelled by Repsol's Nexa 95 renewable gasoline, with Bosch's Digital Fuel Twin system tracking fuel use throughout.
"Technological neutrality is a key pillar of BMW Group's strategy. At the same time, our goal is to continue advancing increasingly efficient, lower-emission vehicles," said Stefan Heller, head of VEEF Programme Development at BMW Group.
The pilot has three goals: expanding availability of renewable gasoline using Repsol's network, which the company says is currently the only supplier of 100% renewable gasoline at public filling stations in Spain; validating Bosch's digital traceability and certification technology; and demonstrating that existing vehicles and fuelling infrastructure can support fleets running solely on renewable fuel.
"With our Digital Fuel Twin system, Bosch brings full digital transparency to the entire fuel value chain," said Marko Babic, Bosch's head of product for the Digital Fuel Twin system.
Nexa 95 is produced from feedstocks compliant with the EU's Renewable Energy Directive, and is fully compatible with existing gasoline engines and infrastructure.
