REWE to add 64 electric vans and 42 charging stations in Germany
The €5 million investment includes both the purchase of the vehicles and the expansion of charging infrastructure.
REWE Lieferservice is introducing 64 all-electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans. The first 40 vehicles have already entered service in Berlin, with the remaining units scheduled for deployment in Neuss from September.
The investment, totaling nearly €5 million, includes both the purchase of the vehicles and the expansion of charging infrastructure. This marks the grocery delivery service’s largest single eSprinter order to date and supports the REWE Group’s long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Clemens Bauer, Director of REWE E-Commerce, explained that the company aims to replace combustion engine vehicles with electric alternatives wherever possible.
“This is a decisive step towards offering zero-emission delivery options. We chose the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter not only for its sustainability and efficiency but also for its flexibility,” he said.
The Berlin site has been fitted with 42 charging stations, each delivering 22 kW and powered by green electricity, ensuring the vans can be fully charged overnight without disrupting daily operations.
