Shell boosts EV charging business in Spain and Portugal
The international energy company has acquired local developer and operator of electric vehicle charging points Cable Energía.
Shell España SA has acquired 100% of Cable Energía, a Spanish developer and operator of electric vehicle charging points. This acquisition will enable Shell to offer on-the-go EV charging services to drivers and fleets at destination locations in Spain and Portugal.
Headquartered in Seville, Spain, Cable Energía is an electric mobility infrastructure company that aims to become one of the largest providers of EV charging services. Shell’s acquisition and additional investment will enable the company to accelerate the rollout of Cable Energia’s network in Spain and Portugal.

With the Cable Energía acquisition, we will support rapid growth of our EV charging network in both markets and, importantly, provide a great charging experience for our customers,” said István Kapitány, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Mobility.

Cable Energia currently has 80 charge points installed across Spain and Portugal, adding to Shell’s network of around 20,000 public charge points globally. Cable Energía becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell, within its Mobility division.
