Shell parts ways with 7-Eleven in Singapore
Royal Dutch Shell will put an end to its 11-year-old partnership with convenience retailer 7-Eleven in Singapore and will rebrand all its sites.
Shell Singapore will gradually scrap 7-Eleven convenience stores at Shell service stations to be in line with its long-term business strategy, reports The Straits Times.
“A national revamp will take place gradually in phases with the introduction of Shell Select and Deli by Shell,” said Shell Singapore retail general manager Aarti Nagarajan.
Shell currently has 57 stations In Singapore, down from 68 some 10 years ago, and as many as 74 in 2003.
Two weeks ago Shell launched IdeaRefinery, a startup accelerator program in Singapore focusing on energy-related startups.
A new player has just entered the Singapore fuel retailing market in the form of Chinese powerhouse Sinopec, which outbid competitors for two sites and will be looking at ways to expand its presence. Shell is said to be one of the possible fuel suppliers for the new Sinopec sites.
