Shell Recharge upgrades 150 fast chargers across Germany
The company has modernized 150 fast-charging points at more than 40 locations nationwide, aiming to improve charger reliability and availability for electric vehicle drivers.
Shell Recharge has completed the modernization of 150 fast-charging points across more than 40 locations in Germany, as part of an investment program focused on improving the reliability and performance of its public EV charging network.
The upgrades were completed by the end of August 2026 and involved replacing older charging equipment with new hardware designed to increase technical stability and reduce operational issues. Shell Recharge also plans to modernize at least 50 additional charging points before the end of the year.
According to the company, the initiative reflects a growing focus on charger uptime and user experience as electric vehicle adoption continues to increase. At selected locations, the modernization program will also increase available charging power, helping improve charging performance for customers.
“The next phase of e-mobility will not be determined solely by the number of charging points, but by their reliability in everyday use,” said Florian Glattes, Head of Shell Mobility Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “That is why we are proactively investing in the modernization of our charging network.”
Shell said the upgraded infrastructure is intended to make public charging more dependable while supporting wider EV adoption. The company added that hardware improvements are complemented by additional elements of its charging offer, including multiple payment options, digital services and continuous site monitoring.
Shell currently operates more than 2,400 fast-charging points across Germany and continues to expand the network through both company-owned sites and partnerships.
