St1 opens biogas stations for heavy transport
Two sites have been built in Finland and three more are planned to be built as part of the company’s goal to establish a nationwide biogas refueling network.
St1 has opened two liquefied biogas (LBG) refueling stations in Finland, as part of its goal to build a nationwide biogas refueling network for heavy transport.
The company’s first biogas refueling stations are located in Iittala and Mäntsälä. In Sweden, the firm is already a leading biogas player in the traffic segment. The company will also build its first liquefied biogas distribution points in Norway this year and expand its distribution network in Sweden.
All of these developments are also part of St1’s plan to significantly increase its biogas production capacity by the end of the decade.
Other LBG stations are being planned for construction this year in Hirvaskangas, Halikko in Salo, and Voutila in Vantaa. Initially, the biogas sold at the stations will come from St1’s own production plants in Sweden, among other sources, until production capacity in Finland becomes available within the next few years.
As part of its own energy transition, St1 is investing in the development of the distribution network. This includes not only biogas but also renewable HVO diesel and heating oil together with the construction of a high power electric charging network.
