Sunoco adds 48 New York stores
Retailer expands its U.S. convenience and fuel footprint with third major deal of 2026.
Sunoco has acquired 48 gas stations and convenience stores in New York, extending the company’s active acquisition streak as it continues expanding its retail network across the country.
Sunoco Retail purchased the portfolio from Capitol Petroleum Group, with the transaction facilitated by Petroleum Capital and Real Estate. The New York purchase marks the company’s third acquisition of 2026, as it bought 56 Duck Thru Food Stores from Jernigan Oil in February, following 36 stores from Pops Mart Fuel in January.
The retailer has been steadily growing its footprint through multi‑store transactions focused on fuel and convenience operations. Last year, Sunoco completed a much larger move with its $9.1 billion acquisition of Parkland, adding roughly 4,000 convenience stores and an oil refinery to its portfolio.
Before these three 2026 acquisitions, the company owned 732 gas stations and convenience stores in the United States and leased an additional 605 locations, according to its most recent annual report. The Dallas‑based company also operates approximately 14,000 miles of oil pipelines, around 160 fuel terminals, and an oil refinery in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Capitol Petroleum Group, headquartered in Springfield, Virginia, will continue to operate about 35 Shell‑branded stores in New York, along with a substantial network of stations in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
