Total number of fuel stations in Austria grew in 2016
In a year that saw fuel prices plummet, Austria's network of gas stations grew with OMV as the main player.
The total number of service stations in Austria marginally grew by 1.2% to 2,673 sites in 2016. OMV has the largest service station network, at 319 sites. The top five fuel retailers -OMV, Agip, BP, Shell and Genol accounted for 52.3% of service stations in Austria in 2016.
Total fuel consumption in Austria declined by 0.8% in 2016 compared to the previous year, while volume sales of petrol marginally declined, falling by only 0.1%.
Fuel prices continued to decrease in Austria and in Europe with the price of petrol declining by 2.7% last year, according to a new report: ‘Service Station Retailing in Austria 2017’, published by GlobalData.
The value of fuel sales has been decreasing annually since 2013, and continued this trend in 2016 falling by 1.1% to €7,489m. In Austria, fuel consumption is expected to rise towards 2022 as vehicle park increases.
Agip (Eni) has the largest number of service stations with a car wash in the country, at 217 sites. Around 43% of service stations in Austria feature a car wash.
