Toyota to sell fuel cell buses in 2017
Fuel cell bus ‘Toyota FC Bus’ will be available in the market in 2017 to raise public awareness on no-emissions, hydrogen-based transportation and as preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Toyota Motor Corporation disclosed in a company release its plans to introduce more than 100 fuel cell buses mainly in Tokyo increasing steadily its number in time for the Olympic Games.
The Bureau of Transportation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government also plans to employ Toyota FC Bus as fixed-route buses.
The Toyota FC Bus, developed by Toyota and Hino Motors, adopts Mirai’s fuel cell system, which provides better energy efficiency and superior environmental performance with no CO2 emissions or substances of concern (SOCs).
The bus also uses a high-capacity external power supply system. With a power supply capable of a 9 kW2 maximum output, and a large capacity of electricity supply at 235 kWh3, the FC bus can be used as a power source in the event of disasters, such as at evacuation sites such as in school gymnasiums or, its electricity supply can also be harnessed for home electric appliance use, explained the company release.
