United States: Wawa opens first CNG station in New Jersey
United States fuel retailer Wawa has unveiled its first compressed natural gas station, located in South Jersey.
The supermarket and gas station chain has partnered with South Jersey Gas to develop the new CNG fuelling station.
The state of New Jersey has a strong CNG fuelling network with around 900 selling points. Wawa´s partner South Jersey Gas operates two, mainly dedicated to its fleet but with access to the public.
"We are excited to provide our fuel customers with an alternative to the traditional liquid fuels, through the first Wawa location in our chain to provide CNG," Lori Bruce, public relations manager for Wawa, told NJ.com.
According to Wawa executives, the company sees an opportunity in the development of the natural gas fuelling market in the United States. Although current low oil prices have hampered the rapid growth of the industry, the country´s 250,000 natural gas powered vehicles are still growing in number.
