US airlines invest $50mn to build modern jet fuel farm
STL Fuel Company, a consortium of airlines at the St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) in Missouri, is set to build a more modern, environment-friendly fuel storage facility. The $50 million fuel farm will replace the existing facility built in 1957.
The new fuel farm will be located on nearly eight acres of airport-owned property near the intersection of Airport Road and James S. McDonnell Boulevard, according to a company release.
It will have a total minimum usable storage capacity of 1,890,000 gallons, with possibility of expanding that capacity.
“STL Fuel Company LLC is excited to partner with St. Louis Lambert International Airport to modernize its jet fuel system” said Jim Stevenson, Southwest Airlines Fuel Category Manager and Chairman of STL Fuel Company.
STL Fuel Company has already started with the preliminary field work and will have approximately two years to complete the project.
“Our airlines are making a major investment in our airport with a fueling operation that is more efficient, environmentally sensitive and will be able to meet the demand of growth well into the future,” said STL Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.
