US-based CST opens Esso station in Canada; eyes 50 new sites in North America for next year

Texas-based CST Brands has just opened its first service station under the Esso banner in Canada and for next year it will open up to 50 new stores in North America, all banners combined, the company said. During this year the company built 38 new stores in North America, it added.

“This announcement is in keeping with an agreement announced last July between CST and the Imperial Oil Company, allowing CST to resell Esso brand fuel to Canadian motorists,” the company said in a press release issued December 17 regarding the new filling station opened.

“Esso is a major brand and we are proud to now offer it not only to consumers but also to independent retailers who wish to associate themselves with this banner. Other sites are currently being considered. In fact, CST plans to open between 40 and 50 new stores in North America in 2015,” CST said.

CST operates some 1,900 locations throughout the Southwestern US and Eastern Canada, the company said. The company offers convenience merchandise through brands like Depanneur du Coin and Corner Store which make available products including Transit Cafe coffee and pastries, it said.

CST said "it distributes fuel under various brands, including Ultramar, for which it is the exclusive retailer, Pipeline Commercial, Shell and Esso,” CST said in its press release distributed through CNW PR newswire company.
