US fuel retail chain Buc-ee’s discloses payment to its employees in stores
The US fuel retail chain Buc-ee’s, which owns the largest convenience store in the world and is know for its big locations with dozens of fuel pumps, started in the second quarter of the year to disclose how much it pays its employees through signs in its locations, the company recently said in its web page as it reproduced a story by Gazette Review.
The sign, clearly visible inside stores, discloses payments from $11 to $14 per hour per employee which is about twice the nationwide minimum wage rate in the US.
Buc-cee’s, with about a 1,000 employees, is taking this action in a moment where several groups are blaming convenience store chains and fast food restaurants for allegedly underpaying employees or paying just the minimum wage. There have been several protests in the past couple of years.
All company sites are very large. The company’s New Braunfels site for example is equipped with 180 fuel pumps, 31 toilets, 31 cash registers and an entire farmer’s market section, according to the report.
The signs also coincide with the company's expansion efforts and it helps attract potential employees.
