The company offers great benefits and career development to people who are passionate about food, customers, and the community.

"Kroger's growth trajectory continues to create opportunities for our people to advance their careers – and to do that in a fun, team environment with great benefits," said Tim Massa, Kroger's group vice president of human resources and labor relations.

Massa noted that 70 percent of Kroger's store managers started as part-time clerks.

Kroger and its subsidiaries, which include 787 convenience stores and 1,439 supermarket fuel centers, currently have more than 443,000 employees.

In 2016, the retail company hired more than 12,000 associates. It also hired more than 9,000 veterans last year as part of its "Honoring Our Heroes” campaign and its affiliation to "100,000 Jobs Mission," a coalition of more than 130 companies with the common goal of hiring more than 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020.
